Form a Family Dynasty Now

You want to form a family dynasty that lasts 1000 years.

A dynasty family has multiple generations of nuclear families living close together, supporting each other, cooperating in business, raising children, mutual defence, etc. If the dynasty family grows big enough, they become a tribe.

Here is a quick introduction to the 8 big ideas you need to implement to create a dynamic family.

1) The Big Story: Your family needs a founding story. It doesn't have to be a myth, but rather a narrative that unites them towards a common goal. Where are you headed as a family?

2) An Identity: You must craft for your family a clear and heroic identity. Who are you? What are your family virtues? What's your 1000-year vision? What will you never do?

3) Ritual: You must create family rituals that produce mindfulness and help members mark the changing of times and seasons, the growing and maturity of children, the sacredness of marriage, and honor your ancestors.

4) Set an example: Everyone in the family must strive to be an excellent example of the kind of person, husband, father, wife, mother, child, friend, boss, citizen, and yes, even enemy that your family holds as its ideal. Ideals should be clearly stated, in writing.

5) Eugenic Marriage: Who your children marry is the number one determinant of the long-term success of your family. Either your children are intentionally marrying people that help to improve the genetics of the family, or they are marrying people who degrade the genetics of the family. You must set rules and be willing to enforce them. The family head needs to have veto power on marriages.

Helping your sons and daughters to find a worthy spouse is part of the responsibility of raising your children.

6) Inheritance: This is not just about money; it's also about how the family is structured. Make sure that all your assets are protected. Lasting wealth includes the following:

• Money, investments, businesses, land/property.

• Wisdom and knowledge taught and written down.

• Reputation of the family.

• Networks, especially with other dynastic families.

• Family history, stories, rituals, and secrets.

• Spiritual heritage.

For example, when my sons marry, if they choose someone I approve of, I will provide them a house sufficient for raising a family that is located on the family estate. This way they can focus on marriage, raising children, and building a business rather than bootstrapping.

7) Cultivate Maturity: The goal of a dynastic family is to raise its children into full adulthood, full maturity, ready to take over family management. Each generation must undergo the training and trials needed to eventually become net contributors to the family enterprise. Those who do not reach maturity and perform their responsibilities must be denied power over family decisions. Members who present a threat to the family must be put at a sufficient distance that they can do no harm.

8) Head of Family: The head of the family is the CEO responsible for the "Office of Family Management," the corporation responsible for big family decisions. Families cannot function as liberal democracies; they require a strong hierarchy (patriarchy) and delegation of responsibilities.

The family head is usually the most mature male in the family; however, allowing qualified, mature, but younger men of the family to take this position may give the family more dynamism than leaving it to an older man.
